Keep a look out for flight deals to this idyllic island In April the temperature was around 70-75 degrees but a slight breeze meant that it was fresh and sharp. Bermuda is like Kinver but with a better climate – small roads:picturesque houses and red telephone boxes. The houses are mostly one or two stories, but painted in lovely pastel shades- pinks:blues:greens:yellows. Then add the turquoise sea and and the fresh blue sky. ..

The island has a very British flavour and although originally discovered by the Spanish at the start of the 16th century it was the British that started its colonisation when Sir Geroge Somers drove his ship on to Bermudan reefs to prevent the ship floundering when caught in a storm on the way to Virginia in 1609.It became a self governing British colony in 1620 that was bolstered by a formal constitution in 1968.

Lots to see- catch the ferry to the old Royal Naval Dockyards, catch the bus to the old capital St Georges, wander round Hamilton, play golf, visit beaches, water sports, boating, the Crystal caves, Portuguese Rock, St David’s Lighthhouse. And the natives are friendly.

WE stayed at Rosedon – an old colonial mansion that served breakfast in your room or by the pool or in the gardens. They could make you a sandwich for lunch or a light dinner in the evening but as there was the large American owned Princess Hotel over the road we wandered over there for a more substantial bite. Travelling around the island was cheap if you are content with the ferry or bus (get tokens at the Ferry station) But… as everything else has to be brought in prices were just a tad more expensive. There is no income tax but the money is raised by a tax on goods.( so a local told me) The usual T shirt and tourist shops but look beyond that and you will find a truly magical island.
