Bertram  Sandy was an observer and later a pilot during WW1 

He was also an accomplished watercolour artist    In 1918 he painted four watercolours

We visited the Imperial War Museum before lockdown to look at water colours by Bertram Sandy.  The uncle of the late Bridgnorth bookmaker ‘Chippy’ Sandy .   Bertram was originally an observer in WW1 , he flew over   Occupied territory to ‘observe’ and report back.   He later became a pilot but survived the war and came home.  He sold four paintings depicting air skirmishes to the Imperial War Museum for £20 .  To view these paintings we made an appointment.   Obviously they had to get them out of storage and we trailed through the back end of the museum to a huge room filled with paintings of all descriptions.    Passing through we recognised a popular oil of Lawrence of Arabia and paintings of WW1 and

The four watercolours were laid out for us on a large table and we were given a brief history.
