Reset uk.org

We are looking for likeminded people – is there anyone out there???

I recently had a Zoom introductory meeting with resetuk.org. Originally because – like many others – I was upset by the TV news about Ukraine and the devastating effect the war was having on families /individuals/children who had to leave their homeland and I wanted to help

So – I signed on to the government scheme. Because almost next door to us was a small cottage and we thought we could pay the rent for six months and we would ‘look after ‘ a refugee family. Its is not this simple .

On the government website there were four more websites that gave more information and it was the last one I accessed that appealed to me Reset uk.org

Reset uk.org is based on a community sponsorship scheme similar to a successful one formed in Canada. It is a government Home Office supported scheme. The government originally said they would support 20,000 refugees via this scheme in 2015. I have no idea how many refugees they have supported so far.

The Community Sponsorship Scheme.
1.Form a group
2.Connect with a Lead Sponsor – usually a local registered charity
3.Contact your local council
4.Talk to local groups for support
5.Fill in an Application Form and send it to the Home Office for approval
6.Start the Fundraising. The group has to find £9,000 for costs such as interpreters/ school uniforms / home equipment etc
7.Find accommodation that is available for two years

If all this is OK then the Home Office will find you a family.
But it takes 10-12 weeks before a family are in the UK. The Home Office matches the family to the accommodation available

The Group should consist of the Lead organiser then other people of the group who are responsible for such areas as safeguarding; education ; benefits; healthcare; integration into the community .

Resetuk.org will help to sort out affordable accommodation. Some housing associations are signed up to a Refugee Pledge. The Community Group does not pay the rent – this is paid for by benefits . Similarly benefits pay for food etc but the refugee family will obviously need help initially with shopping and income management, as well as English lessons if needed.

The Lead Sponsor – signs the Legal Agreement not the Community Sponsorship Group.
So….is anyone interested ? This cannot be done by one person. If anyone is interested in helping to set up a community group I will set up a meeting for us all and let everyone know
