On Monday DD and I got married at Llangoed Hall in Brecon. It’s about 15 miles or so from Hay on Wye.
We kept it a secret – two oldies (81 years and 76 years) with only our families there. The setting and staff were superb. It’s a rambling old Gothic pile formerly the home of Laura Ashley and now turned into a really posh and upmarket hotel. I don’t think the staff had ever seen couples over the age of 30 get married before and they spoiled us rotten.
Nick- the chef from Lancashire – produced some of the finest food I have ever eaten . We had the tasting menu for our wedding feast. Six courses of small but delicious plates of food. I will just describe one course to give an example of the standard set, this was a plate of rare welsh beef under a smoke filled glass dome that was whipped off to reveal this beef in an amazing sauce and tender home grown salads and vegetables. And so it went on….ending in a brandied peach filled with some kind of a soft cheesecake with a raspberry coulis.
The rooms were typically traditional and luxurious . Huge supremely comfortable beds. Large overstuffed armchairs. Complimentary sherries and elderflower presse and sparkling waters with a bowl of fruit set out on an antique table over looking rolling welsh fields.
Bliss – I may have to get married again
