As early as January 2021 a local resident Marilyn Heseltine wrote to our MP Philip Dunne to complain about the dog fouling that was evident in Bridgnorth Walking round the town -especially the Castle Walk -this is evident. To his credit I am told that Mr Dunne did write to Shropshire Council and has requested additional signage as a deterrent and even the Bridgnorth Journal has taken up the cry and has called for a dog warden to patrol the streets .
This is not enough . One dog warden may not make much difference FACT- it is unacceptable for dog owners to allow their pets to foul our environment. The majority of owners comply with the environmental laws, for those who don’t – it is an offence not to clean up after a dog has fouled on any land to which the public are permitted access There is a fine of £80 which can rise up to £1000 if there is a refusal to pay and the case ends up in court.
This is the responsibility of us all. Name and shame. Take a photo. If you are out walking and see this offence being committed – report this vile action to the Council by telephoning 0345 678 9006.
Report it online to Shropshire Council at www.shropshire.gov.uk/street-care-and-cleaning/environmental-maintenance/dog-fouling/
Give as much information as possible; the time of the offence; a description of the dog walker and the dog and where the fouling has occurred.
